Current Training & Service-Oriented Development

Zico already has the foundation expected from one of our developed young adult placements. His training centers around functional obedience and manners that translate into everyday life, including sit, down, stay, recall, heel, place, kennel/crate, wait, leave it, out/drop, off, loose-leash walking, structured leash work, doorway and threshold manners, handler engagement, crate settling, household settling, vehicle manners, appropriate greetings, and maintaining composure around everyday environmental distractions.

His training is continuing beyond basic obedience with a particular emphasis on the qualities needed for a polished companion who may spend significant time accompanying his owner.

That includes development in areas such as long-duration settling, public neutrality, calm behavior around people, environmental confidence, impulse control, advanced handler focus, maintaining position around distraction, structured heel work, extended stays, reliable recall, controlled entrances and exits, vehicle loading and unloading, travel manners, and remaining composed in unfamiliar settings.

His service-oriented development is focused on building the kind of foundation required before any dog can move into more specialized work: an ability to remain connected to his handler, ignore irrelevant environmental distractions, move appropriately through public spaces, settle for extended periods, recover quickly from new experiences, and remain emotionally stable when the world around him becomes busy.

Depending on the individual needs of his future handler, further training can continue toward appropriate task foundations and more advanced public-access style manners.
